Last Month Sarah and I were lucky enough to represent the ILD-INN at ARNS 2016 Holloway Park Loughborough. We would like to thank ARNS for the invitation to exhibit and the warm welcome we received. Manning the stand gave us the opportunity to meet many of the delegates attending, to introduce ourselves and to tell them about the ILD-INN. Why we set up and what we want to achieve as well as giving them advanced notice of our pending inaugural conference ‘INNovations in ILD’ which I’m pleased to say met with great interest.
This was my first time at ARNS and one I would like to repeat. The programme which had something in it for everyone kicked off with an thought provoking key note address on by Jane Cummings’ CNO and concluded with Jane Scullion’s inspiring and funny stories. Day 1 speakers chaired by Dr Matthew Hudson included Leanne Jo Holmes & Rachel Daley, Anne Holdoway & Michaela Bowden, Joe Annandale, Elizabeth Walker, Sharon Hudson, Karen Badgery, Wendy Preston & Thomas Moreton, Gillian Doe & Steven Jackson, Anna Spathis. Day 2 chaired by Wendy Preston included Dr Felix Woodhead, Dorothy Reed, professor Mike Steiner, Cath & Gordon Butler, Dr Richard Hewitt.
For me as an ILD Nurse the highlight of the program was undoubtedly Kath and Gordon Butler who gave us an insight of the experience of living with IPF from both the carers and patient perspective. Their candid presentation was inspirational, entertained and humorous despite the serious underlying subject matter. They have kindly agreed to allow us to put the transcript of the presentation on the website I would urge you all to read it. It serves as a reminder if one was ever needed one of why we do what we do. Thank you both.
